About us

Toscana Café & Wine Bar is located at the intersection of Fifth and K Street in the Gaslamp District of downtown San Diego. Reminiscent of popular street cafés flanking the streets of modern-day Tuscany, this romantic San Diego gem embodies the same spirit of warmth and the promise of authentically inspired Italian cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Established in 2007, Toscana Café and Wine Bar present old world Italian favorites that can be tastefully complemented with a vast selection of both Italian and Californian wines. This quintessential Italian bistro also boasts one of the most extensive “by the glass “offerings of wine in the area. Toscana Café and Wine Bar take its moniker to heart. Adhering to high standards, the obligation to present diners with the utmost in quality wine selections is taken seriously.

For starters, wines are not merely added to the menu based on availability. Toscana Café and Wine Bar owner Sean Shoja instead meet with winemakers to discuss their offerings. He hand-selects wines to please the palate and pair with his artfully crafted menu items. Secondly, Toscana Café and Wine Bar offer wines of low case-yields, meaning much of their selection is not available to the mass market. Shoja aims to support small growers and wine-making families in both domestic and international markets. Because Toscana Café and Wine Bar is also a family-run business, the decision is both heartfelt and conscientious. Finally, many wines on the menu at Toscana Café and Wine Bar are produced either organically or through sustainable farming methods.

From water conservation to eco-friendly growing techniques, wine suppliers are selected based upon their mutual concern for the environment. Produce at Toscana Café and Wine Bar is locally sourced, and coffee and tea products are certified organic and/or fair-trade. The Gaslamp’s go-to spot for Italian fare is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the atmosphere is just as inviting inside as it is outside. Indoors, the ambiance echoes the warmth of a fine Tuscan cafe and the outdoor patio is street-side dining at its finest. Dinners can choose from one of Toscana’s hearty paninis or a traditional Italian favorite like lobster ravioli. And what could be better than taking it all in while dining al-fresco in America’s Finest City? “Buon Appetito!” from Gaslamp’s authentic Toscana Café and Wine Bar.
